I never intended on becoming an Executive Life and Leadership Coach. 

When I first enrolled in the Executive Coaching 12-month certification program 7.5 years ago, I did it to be a better leader. A better leader for myself, my team, my peers, and organization. 

3 months into the program I lost my sister. She was my best friend, my confidant, my “go to” when I needed support or advice, an amazing mom, business professional, wife, sister and daughter. It was unexpected, something none of us could’ve planned for. 

What was predictable for me during this loss was to:

Double down and work harder - 12 hours a day plus nights and weekends
Power through the loss - keep as busy as possible 
Running as many miles as I could fit in so much, I gave myself a stress fracture
Avoid the grieving - I’m fine became the standard answer when anyone asked how I was

All while losing sight of my long-term goals to really focus my time and attention on developing my team.

That’s what was predictable as that’s how it had gone for me in the past when losing my dad. But this time was different, I had a Coach. Not only did I have a Coach I had a team of fellow coaches and Leaders supporting me, loving on me and they were a stand for me. A stand for me to:

Taking 2 weeks off and a month off from the program - more time than I had ever taken before
Grieve
Take relentless care of myself - rest, walks, baths, spending time with family and friends
To come back and focus on being the best leader that I could be

That is the very thing that changed my trajectory. Having that relentless support from Coaches and Leaders is what drove me to shift my priorities to do what I do today.
